Cocoa Beach in Florida, where, thank God, life is still a beach

The 1960 TV sitcom "I Dream of Jeannie I say" made famous in Cocoa Beach area was the home of Jeannie (Barbara Eden) and her astronaut "master" (Larry Hagman). "20 minutes in each direction from the city of Cocoa Beach and you can sun on the beautiful beaches, parasailing 800 feet above the water, fish in rivers or sprawl hovercraft glides through wetlands in a quiet. Cocoa Beach is the best kept secret to protect the coasts of Florida.

The famousCocoa Beach Pier, built in 1962, is a historic landmark, stretches 800 feet above the Atlantic Ocean. It is not just a fishing pier, but a site of adventure. Pier sports four restaurants offer at least two of the seafood. It is home to five bars, directly exciting weekend with bands from the pounding rhythms. The pier also has a clothing store, a bait and tackle shop, and requested the gift and souvenir shops.

I would recommend a stay at a hotel orMotel overlooking the harbor and the sea. One of my favorite activities during my stay in Cocoa Beach was a walk on the beach or the pier. I felt safe walking around and in the evening. The Holiday Inn Express, Best Western and Days Inn is located almost opposite the pier. For those who want more details on the initiatives we are in the center of Cocoa Beach, the Four Points Sheraton Hotel. Its swimming pool is small but is on the beach with Ron JonSurf Shop next door, not to mention a Starbucks in the lobby. For those, the scene of the center, that of a budget, try the Wakulla suites, a good family value. Jetty Park offers RV and camping travelers an ideal place to enjoy the beach.

Cocoa Beach is obsessed with surfing and has been called "the surfing capital of the East Coast." Our family was there last October. We were surprised how many surfers ride the waves at the time of 'year has seen. We stayed for ten days; could swim in a heated four of those days. Sure, there are Yankees, and they came from a much colder climate, but there were other people in the hotel pool. So, we were not the only ones who found the temperature of the water well. My husband and children could swim in the sea, I decided to pass up. They swear the water was not cold, but I do not know. Autumn in Cocoa Beach also means it is a game of volleyball on the media> Beach.

In the spring, is a surfer with a crawl space, such as the Cocoa Beach Pier sponsor of the annual Easter Surf Festival. The pier also sponsors a concert series of warm weather, which recently offered before the Beach Boys as headliners. Summer brings bikini contests, read some super close, but from what I can not pin. In January there is the struggle of professional surfer, goes for $ 85,000 in cash contest. Spectators can bring a picnic, spreadon the beach and watch this death-defying competition.

For those who want to combine travel, the nature of the sea, surfing, and nature, why not try the Cocoa Beach Kayak tours? You can paddle through the Indian River Lagoon, a mangrove estuary, home to dolphins and the endangered Florida manatee, bottlenose dolphins and all sorts of exotic birds. A little known gem is the Cocoa Beach Manatee Sanctuary Park, north of Atlantic Avenue. Up close and personalWith the gentle giant of Florida, this beautiful park clean. Bring your lunch break. Picnic tables are supplied in a protected area. Great fun for the family and you can not just the price. Admission is free.

There are more restaurants in Cocoa Beach, as it keeps shaking a jar. We loved the Atlantic Grill on the pier for a Sunday brunch, when it comes to watching. The atmosphere is romantic and Beachy complementary champagne flowing. It 'was something delicious foreveryone in our family of four sat down like the waves of the sea, we enjoy a breakfast buffet very good. Be careful, there is a dress code. Men must wear shirts and no bare feet allowed. If you want Chinese in the area, go to Yen Yen, in the center of Cocoa Beach, for the awesome food and an extensive menu. She does not expect a Chinese food of this quality in a resort area. We ate at the Pig and Whistle for dinner, although I would not recommend it for dinner, if you are eating with the children. It seems that the bar "Cheers" and gets loud after dark.

The Fish n chips' have been impressive and the staff was very friendly. Our 10 years, said that the chicken fingers were excellent! Our family of four was in Wahoo Coffee Company during a brief downpour. The coffee was wonderful and so were the baked goods. You have to read a series of not-so-current issues of magazines, while drinking beer. The ladies behind the counter heard my husband and I dreamed out loud aboutMoving to the area and insisted I take a couple of issues of "coastal" with me. Really, the staff incredibly nice! For one night Bummy beach a short distance north of grilled fish Deck & Tiki Bar in Cape Canaveral. My childhood friend, who lives in the states that were pursuing a place for years and has nitespot representatives to be as cool. Our family went for a late dinner and I saw many other families there with children. The food was excellent. I had coconutShrimp, which was not of this world. After dinner, the family restaurant on the pier hung and heard a pop singer of classic rock songs on his keyboard, while the crowd at the Tiki bar sang along with him.

If it is absolutely necessary, Orlando is only an hour away. With two children we have decided, one day at Sea World and others to go to Disney. I was disappointed in the World Ocean. The cost of an arm and a leg to get in and then all the performances were an added price. But theSea World water park, Aquatica, was Ab Fab (absolutely fabulous). Disney is great. Well, you knew that! We Magic Kingdom. A word to the wise, if you do not eat fast food all day, you need a reservation for dinner in a restaurant in the park, make one or more days in advance. Disney called customer relations and will help you. Believe me this is a must!
