Cebu City - Queen City of the South

Cebu City is one of the most important cities in the Philippines. It 's like "The Queen City of the South" of their importance in trade, transport and tourism in this part of the country famous for.

Geography

Cebu City is located along the east coast of the province of Cebu in the Visayas region. It has a total area of 291.2 km square and a population of about 800,000 people since the last census. The city has 80 barangays divided into two districts. L 'The dialect is Cebuano.

Business and Economy

While the cities of Manila and the Philippines, Makati is the commercial center of northern Cebu is the commercial capital of the south, Visayas and Mindanao.

Because of its location it is only natural that companies in Cebu would turn the sea and seafaring. The city is the largest town in the country of transit, which hosts 80% of all domestic carriers. History

Even before the adventSpanish domination Cebu was already a well-developed and prosperous city, trade with other Southeast Asian countries enjoyed. On April 7, 1521 the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan came to the island. E 'was incorporated and friendship Humabon Raja, king of Cebu. Attractions

Cebu City is a major tourist destination in the Philippines. The most famous landmark is Magellan's Cross. The legend says that it is constructed by the researchers on her landing on the island. It is part of Christian Filipinos, as the HolySymbol of the birth of their faith. In 1835 the local bishop ordered that the cross be moved in a wooden box and kept in a chapel. This was to protect the cross from the disciples of vandalism that would chip away piece by piece.

Nearby is the Basilica of the Holy Child Small (Basilica Minore de Santo Nino). The church is home to the first religious image of the country, the Santo NiƱo.

Each year in January, the famous Sinulog Festival Place. Originally a ritual dancethe dancers, the movement of the river (sulog) imitated, is now performed in honor of Baby Jesus.
